- THE BEST AMIGA YET
-
- The new Amiga 5000 is to be released in the near future. The A5000
- supports two floppy drives (one as standard) and two 5.25" floppy drives,
- one of which can hold a CD-Drive.
-
- The machine has three processors on board. One of which is the new
- Motorola 68060, and two 68EC040 processors. The '060' runs at 35MHz, with
- the two '040' processors running at 25MHz.
-
- The A5000 will have Kickstart/Workbench 4.0. This Kickstart controls the
- three processors, as earlier Kickstarts would not be able to access the
- extra '040' processors.
-
- There are several new chips, providing a maximum resolution of 4096 x
- 4096 with over 32 million colours, and allowing Workbench of operating in
- all modes with a 512 colour palette.
-
- 16Mb of Chip Ram is supplied as standard on the motherboard, expandable
- to 64Mb, and 16Mb of Fast Ram, expandable to 256Mb at least.
-
- The hard drive interface uses the SCSI-2 standard with a 210Mb slimline
- hard drive mounted as standard. The floppy drive is high density, and the
- CD-drive is a standard A2000 internal drive.
-
- The sound is now 16-bit quality.
-
- There are eight Zorro III expansion slots with three IBM slots in
- parallel with three of those Zorro slots.
-
- The price for this amazing new machine ?,$3499, no uk price as yet.

- INCREASE OF CD-ROM SOFTWARE
-
- There is a sharp increase in the amount of software being produced to
- run on CD-ROM, especially in the games area. With some software companies
- considering only to release some games onto CD-ROM. This is of course
- good news for PC owners with CD-ROM. But users without CD-ROM drives might
- soon have to purchase a CD-ROM drive out of necessity rather than choice.
-
- Broderbund announced the CD-ROM adventure Myst, and Eduquest announced
- their conversion of the coin-op classic Mad Dog McCree, also only on
- CD-ROM.

- ST/E FALCON NEWS.
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- ACCELERATE THAT FALCON!
- One of the first (of many!) hardware add-ons to materialise
- for the Falcon is an accelerator/VME slot/RAM upgrade unit,
- available from GE Soft in Germany. The unit is rumoured to be
- already in this in this country. The board has a 32Mhz
- accelerator on it, and 8 SIMM slots capable of taking 2,4 or 16
- Mbyte SIMM chips. This would bring the total memory that the
- Falcon can have to a staggering 128Mb. The board will be
- available from Gasteiner Technologies (famous for their Hard Drive
- units), and will cost somewhere around #599 without any RAM.

- THE NEWER FALCON!
- There has been wispers about the Falcon 040 on various
- boards (mainly Mono- Hi guys!) about the 040, this computer will
- be faster then the 030 as it contains the Motorola 68040 chip. One
- of the main features of this chip (and all the models on from it)
- is that is has internal frequency doubling, this means that when
- you have a 55 Mhz clock going into it, the actual chip is running
- at 110Mhz- Watch that insulation fry :-). This should give it a
- huge increase in speed, and keep the PC owners quiet to boot!

-
- CASING FOR THE FALCON!
- Although Atari are not conferming this, the Falcon maybe re-
- packaged in a black PC case (i.e seperate keyboard and a big
- box!), and no cartridge port (as you don't need one, you just bolt
- the bits on)..
-
- That'll do for the ST/etc news for now!-Steve/68K
